Ending the war in Afghanistan is the right thing to do. After decades and
trillions of dollars spent, it’s clear that neither the additional
investment of money nor loss of lives would bring a greater chance of
success.
But that doesn’t lessen the heartbreak of watching events unfold now.
As we secure American soldiers and personnel, it must remain our utmost
priority to also secure our Afghan allies that put themselves in harm’s
way to aid us in our mission.
Leaving them behind would be a moral failure.
The administration must stand by their assurances that we won’t abandon
our Afghan allies by doing all they can to save lives. We must keep the
Kabul International Airport open and safely evacuate as many allies and
at-risk Afghans as we possibly can in the coming days. And we must commit
as a nation to welcoming and resettling Afghan refugees.
I’ve been in touch with the large Afghan community in my district, and I
will continue to convey their feedback to my fellow lawmakers as we
navigate the current situation.
As the Taliban takes over Afghanistan, women and girls are going to see
their rights drastically rolled back. If you’re looking for a way to help,
I encourage you to donate to [ [link removed] ]Women for Afghan Women or the

Thanks for your support. I’ll report back when I have more information to
share. The eyes of the world are upon us, and we must do the right thing.
