[1]Bowman for Congress
John,
Earlier this weekend, we were made aware of the tragedy and natural
disaster that struck Haiti and the Caribbean Islands. I want to take a
moment to send love, strength, and healing to all those affected in Haiti
and our neighbors in the Caribbean and to anyone in our communities who
may have friends or family members affected by this disaster.
In Haiti, almost 1,300 men, women, and children lost their lives, and
thousands more have been injured or displaced after a 7.2 magnitude
earthquake struck on August 14. In addition, Tropical Depression Grace
continues to cause massive flooding, tragically affecting the Dominican
Republic and other Caribbean islands, their infrastructure, and overall
civilian safety.
It's crucial that we use our resources and funds to help support the
manmade and natural devastation of underserved communities everywhere.
That's why we're committed to directing aid to on-the-ground relief groups
working to build up our international communities who are impacted by this
earthquake.
[ [link removed] ]The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund (HERF) donates 100% of the collected
contributions to grassroots community organizations currently providing
on-the-ground access to water, food and shelter, while working to help
reconstruct and rebuild civilian lives. If you are in the position to
donate, please consider supporting HERF and their work to support the
people affected by these natural disasters.
Contribute
Unlike the NGOs accused of profiteering from the generous public after the
2016 earthquake in Haiti, HERF pays no wages and their work is led
entirely by volunteers.
This is not the time to profit or politicize,
John. We need to show the utmost
humanitarian care and assistance as we work to support those most affected
by this natural disaster. We must quickly support Haiti and its people as
they recover and heal from these layered tragedies.
Let's be organized and collaborate in delivering much-needed relief and
care to Haiti. [ [link removed] ]Please support HERF and their efforts to support those
most affected and those left most vulnerable due to natural and manmade
disasters.
My office will continue to keep you updated on ways to keep supporting and
stay involved as we continue to gain more information. My heart goes out
to those in the Caribbean, and I pray we find peace soon.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
