Team,
In an emergency, we should be able to count on our public servants to put politics aside and prioritize health and safety—especially for our children.
But as Covid surges throughout Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has chased the approval of his extreme right-wing base by banning mask requirements in public schools.
Local school officials are fighting back so they can protect our students, educators, and communities. But under Abbott’s executive order, they face $1,000 fines for requiring mask wearing in schools. He wants to punish our public schools—who already do so much for our children with limited resources—for trying to save lives.
So let’s get in this fight by their side. People First Future is teaming up with Ground Game Texas PAC and Safe Schools for All to help local Texas school districts pay fines they face for keeping students and teachers safe.
Mayors, county judges, school board members, superintendents, and school officials across Texas are stepping up to do the right thing to try to keep communities safe.
As the father of two young children who started seventh and first grade last week, I’m so grateful for all our public school staff who are doing everything they can to protect our kids.
Our statewide leaders should be supporting our local leaders, or—at the very least—getting out of their way.
But time and time again, Governor Abbott has chosen his own GOP primary politics over protecting our public health.
School children shouldn’t be subject to his political games. And Texas school districts shouldn’t have to worry about incurring costly fines for trying to save lives.
The more money we raise for this fund, the more we can help schools keep our communities safe, and send the message that we stand with our educators doing the right thing.
Thank you,
Julián
