The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund

John,

This weekend, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

As I’m writing this, the death toll has reached 1,297, with more than 5,700 injured and thousands more displaced by the natural disaster.

Hospitals are overwhelmed, many homes are destroyed, and with a tropical storm rapidly approaching the island nation in the Caribbean, flooding and landslides could bring even more destruction to Haiti.

Compounded by the ongoing pandemic and political instability from the fallout of the assassination of Haiti’s President, the country is facing a unique crisis in the path to recovery — and John, I want to inform you about one way you can help.

The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund sends each and every dollar directly to grassroots community organizations on the ground in Haiti. These groups are positioned to provide the most effective support for families and communities impacted by the earthquake.

Haitians are mobilizing once again at the grassroots community level, forming work brigades to respond to this new disaster — and they need our support. In the wake of Saturday’s tragedy, please consider making a donation today to support their work serving the people of Haiti:

Thank you for contributing to the urgent relief efforts in Haiti. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee
