Hi John,
If we're going to halt climate change and prevent a global catastrophe, we need progressive climate champions at every level of government. From city councils to the White House, we need to do it all.
Run for Something electeds are working to combat climate change on all fronts -- they're proposing legislation, developing local climate action plans, and showing true leadership when it comes to creating initiatives to hold us back from the worst-case scenarios.
Don't take our word for it, see for yourself:
- Michigan state Senator Mallory McMorrow introduced legislation aiming to make the use of electric vehicles more accessible to reduce the state's carbon footprint;
- Texas state Representative James Talarico developed a climate action plan after seeing the devastating effects of Winter Storm Uri;
- Earlier this year, the University of Michigan Board of Regents, where Jordan Acker serves, voted to divest its endowment (which is $14 billion!!) from fossil fuels -- the first public university to do so;
- Jonathan Grieder (Waterloo IA Councilmember), Kenny Boddye (Prince William County VA Supervisor), and Matt Shorraw (Monessen PA Mayor) have developed local plans to combat climate change in their communities;
- Washington state Representative Kirsten Harris-Talley passed a bill to undo environmental injustices faced by people of color;
- Colorado state Senator Julie Gonzalez passed a bill to ban plastic bags in her state;
- Lewiston, ME School Board Member Kiernan Majerus-Collins introduced a resolution to commit the district to eliminate emissions by 2030;
- Delaware state Representative Madinah Wilson-Anton proposed amending the state constitution to protect the environment.
This is only a tiny fraction of the climate action that RFS alums drive -- but we need to elect a lot of diverse young progressives to office to truly address the threat of climate change. Will you chip in $5 or more to continue electing passionate, climate-focused progressives to office?
Thank you for doing your part,
