As a professional woman spending her career in male-dominated workplaces, I longed for the times when I would feel equal and respected for my opinions and advice. It took me quite a while working as a nurse, then student, lawyer, and humanitarian worker to find such a colleague. “Let me speak” and “I am speaking” were my go-to defensive phrases to express my opinions in work settings.
Like all of you, we grow, and -- yes -- age, accumulating a great amount of experience and wisdom. It is important for each of us to share that incredible reservoir to solve problems and create solutions greatly needed in these times.
Dave Harden, running for Congress in Maryland’s First District, is one of those people with whom I have had the pleasure to work with on Middle East humanitarian and economic projects as well as working side by side with him in a cross-border Middle East Business. We worked together both here and abroad, solving problems with distressed and forgotten communities. We solved many such problems by harnessing private-public funding to create jobs for workers. We rescued companies and turned them around through economic growth and job creation. First and foremost, Dave is a problem solver. There's no issue too challenging or complex for Mr. Harden. And Dave lets everyone speak.
Yes, after all these years working together, Dave Harden is my friend. We both are graduates of Georgetown University Law School selected for their Public Interest Scholar Program dedicated to giving lawyers the tools to do civil rights and humanitarian work, which we both have done in our careers.
The years ahead require that all people -- regardless of gender, heritage, or opinions -- listen to each other. Dave Harden has always wanted to hear all voices and all points of view. Maryland’s First District is diverse, encompassing hard-working people in its rural areas, small businesses, and harvesting the Chesapeake treasures.
Join him in his local discussions and meetings. You will notice what I have noticed – that he listens and will make real plans to solve problems for you and your important District.
