Friend,
Eighty-six years ago, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law―and for 86 years, Social Security has paid its monthly benefits in full and on time. But if no action is taken, all beneficiaries will see a 20% cut in benefits starting in 2034.
This is an unacceptable abdication of responsibility by Congress, when we know that all it takes is for the wealthy to start paying their fair share for us to strengthen Social Security’s Trust Fund and expand benefits for millions of Americans.

Social Security supports 65 million Americans each year―and it provides the majority of income for about 40% of beneficiaries.
Over the years, we’ve expanded Social Security to cover surviving spouses and children, and people with disabilities. Now, it’s time to expand Social Security again. This includes:
-
Increasing Social Security’s minimum benefit to ensure no one who retires after a lifetime of work retires into poverty;
-
Improving the COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) to better reflect the actual needs of seniors and people with disabilities;
-
Providing caregiver credits for those who must leave the workforce to care for a loved one;
-
Increasing Social Security’s modest benefits for all beneficiaries;
-
Improving benefits for surviving spouses, restoring student benefits for dependent children of disabled, deceased, or retired workers, and increasing benefits for children living with grandparents or relatives;
-
And paying for it by ensuring millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.
Join me and our national allies in demanding Congress act to strengthen and expand Social Security and to pay for it by ensuring the wealthy start paying their fair share. Sign the petition >>
Social Security is the most successful social insurance program in our country’s history―but still, 5 million seniors remain in poverty. Together, we’re defending against relentless attacks on Social Security and demanding Congress act to expand Social Security for current and future generations.
Always serving you,
Rashida
