John,
Did you see Victory Fund’s news last week? We just launched We Belong Together, the only national LGBTQ effort to ensure LGBTQ communities are considered and respected throughout the U.S. redistricting process.
Here are three reasons it is essential that LGBTQ neighborhoods be kept together when the new maps are drawn:
- District lines can make or break an LGBTQ candidate’s campaign. A fairly-drawn district can secure LGBTQ representation. An unfairly-drawn district can dilute our voting power and reduce the chances an LGBTQ person is elected.
- When LGBTQ people are elected, they fight to pass pro-LGBTQ legislation and block harmful bills. We can't protect trans rights and marriage equality or ban conversion therapy without LGBTQ elected officials!
- Fair maps also make it more likely we’ll hold our pro-equality majorities – including in the U.S. Congress. Bigots are already targeting LGBTQ congressional candidates in New Hampshire, Kansas and Michigan and state legislative seats across the country!
We’ve already started working with partners Equality California and One Colorado and in states including Arizona, Michigan and Montana (and you know how important these states are!). This is a once-in-a-decade opportunity. If we don’t secure fair maps now, we’ll have to wait ten more years before we can try again. We can’t afford to delay! To ensure this essential work succeeds, we need all hands-on deck. Pitch in today to power the only nationwide redistricting effort in the U.S.!
Thanks,
LGBTQ Victory Fund

LGBTQ Victory Fund is the political arm of the LGBTQ community. Since our founding in 1991, we’ve supported and elected LGBTQ candidates like U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Governors Jared Polis and Kate Brown and all nine LGBTQ members of U.S. Congress. We've boosted out candidates running for state and local government, including California Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Florida Senator Shevrin Jones, Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod, Pennsylvania state Representative Brian Sims, Hawaii state Representative Adrian Tam, and so many more (meet all of our current candidates here)! We’ve shattered rainbow ceilings in all 50 states and broken election records. You can power our work and the next Rainbow Wave with a donation today!
