Friend,

Eighty-six years ago, Social Security was signed into law. Many folks take this critical legislation for granted now, but it was a radical concept at the time: if you pay your fair share, you can count on your government to have your back when you need it.

Roughly 65 million people rely on Social Security. It's not just seniors and those in retirement who count on Social Security: people with disabilities, children, and survivors of deceased workers are among the other groups of Americans who count on this government program.

Social Security is one of the things our government does best, and it has the high approval ratings to prove it. But maddeningly, there are those in power who continue to attack Social Security and try to cut funding for this critical service.

I have always fought to protect Social Security and worked hard to defend it against senseless cuts. It's one of the reasons why I was endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.

But I need your help to make clear the importance of Social Security to those who just don't get it. Will you sign my petition to show your support for Social Security?

I watched firsthand the benefit Social Security gave to my Oma. She lived to be almost 109 years old, and Social Security is a huge reason why she was able to live with dignity well into her second century.

My Oma's story is not unique. Those of you reading this email probably have your own example of why Social Security is important to you, and I hope I can count on your help to defend this critical program.

Add your name today to show your support for protecting Social Security. Celebrate 86 years of this program by helping ensure we have it for the next 86 years – and beyond!

Thank you. As always, it's an honor to represent you,

Derek
