We are looking for enthusiastic, driven leaders that are passionate about the Chamber and want to help us expand membership and achieve our mission. To be considered for Board service, a Chamber member must be in good standing and be able to fulfill the following responsibilities: Prepare for and attend Board Meetings. Board members are expected to review the meeting packets in advance and attend regularly scheduled Board meetings. Participate in Chamber Events and Activities. Board members are expected to demonstrate leadership and participate in events and other activities offered by the Chamber. In addition, Directors should encourage and assist members to do the same. Support the Chamber Financially. In addition to their membership dues, Directors will pay an annual assessment set at $490 for 2021. Beyond this assessment, Directors should consider the Chamber as a focused recipient of community engagement resources from their organization. Encourage others to join the Chamber. Virginia General Assembly Approves Business Assistance Funding The Virginia General Assembly has allocated more than $3 billion of the Commonwealth’s funding from the American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress earlier this year. Headlining the allocation is $250 million for the Rebuild VA small business grant program. Businesses that applied for, but did not receive, Rebuild VA grants last year will have priority, and then applications will be reopened, with businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry having priority. The Chamber will share how to apply for this next round of Rebuild VA grants when they are reopened. The allocation funds priorities including broadband expansion, utility assistance, tourism promotion, improving ventilation in schools, need-based financial aid for college students, replenishing the Unemployment Trust Fund, and more. A further $761 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding was left to be allocated during the General Assembly’s 2022 session this coming winter. The budget bill also repealed the penalty for unitary businesses failing to file a certain tax report and corrected language in the Virginia Overtime Wage Act to align its exemptions with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
