This event looks back on nearly two decades of war in Afghanistan from the perspective of the Americans that fought it. Five U.S. veterans reflected on their experiences in Afghanistan, discussed whether their views of the war have changed over time, and offered thoughts on current withdrawal plans and the peace process.

Malign Creativity: How Gender, Sex, and Lies are Weaponized Against Women Online is a landmark research study that explores gendered abuse and disinformation across six social media platforms over two months in late 2020. In the study, the Wilson Center and Moonshot CVE define, quantify, and evaluate the use of online gendered and sexualized abuse and disinformation campaigns against women in public life, and strive to build awareness of the direct and indirect impacts of the phenomenon. The study provides recommendations for social media platforms, government policymakers, and employers to mitigate the problem in service of a more equitable, democratic future.
As U.S.-Russian tensions continue to escalate, Russia’s role in the Middle East is of urgent concern both to Israel and the United States. In a discussion moderated by Susan Glasser, the report’s contributors addressed the challenges Russia poses in the region and the decisions that policymakers in the U.S. and Israel face.
On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the Middle East Program and the Atlantic Council IN TURKEY hosted a panel highlighting regional voices about the challenges refugees are facing in the region, with a focus on Syrian women, youth, and children, together with practitioners in the field who understand what strategies have worked so far to address the displaced people’s needs beyond the basic humanitarian packages including the capacity of host communities to strengthen resilience and promote social cohesion.
