Wollaton Arts Festival returned for a week this year, with a mixture of online and Covid-safe events, and art displays in shop and home windows.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid restrictions being extended, some events had to be cancelled but the Festival launch went ahead as planned on Bramcote Lane, with music, childrens’ art activities and a chance to see the work of local artists in the shop windows, and many more events through the week.
The Festival was made possible due to the hard work of three volunteers, Rachel Scanlon, Jane Parfitt and Parbinder Singh, and a small amount of council funding. Huge thanks go to them and everyone who took part.
Next year, the Festival will hopefully be back as normal, to showcase local talent and to celebrate being part of our lovely Wollaton community.
If you would like to be part of next year’s Festival (more volunteers will be warmly welcomed) check out the Wollaton Arts Festival website (wollatonarts.org)
Your local Councillors, as well as the whole community, have always been immensely grateful to have such a magnificent park in our ward.
However, since the pandemic started the number of visitors to the park has trebled. Unfortunately, with this user increase the amount of rubbish in bins and damage to footpaths and roads has been significant.
So, it's been a big job to repair and improve the park for everyone. Over the last year, improvements have included resurfacing works to many paths and car park areas. Many visitors have seen railings being replaced & brand new larger capacity bins being installed.
These improvements will continue, so that our park remains beautiful for users and wildlife.
The awareness and importance of biodiversity continues to grow, which is fantastic news for our ecosystems. Cllrs Battlemuch, Khan and Woodward want to ensure more locations are identified across the ward and the necessary steps taken. Site visits to Martin’s Pond and Bridge Road have recently taken place with Charlie Roberts (Biodiversity & Greenspace Policy Officer) in order for us to create a plan.
