Nottingham City Council and the Leen Valley ward councillors worked in partnership with McDonalds and Education FC to host a litter pick and sport consultation day. The socially distanced event was fun and supported the local community to get active. A huge thank you to the following supporting organisations:-

Groups of litter pickers set out at staggered times from Nuthall Road McDonalds, Bluecoat’s school, King George Playing fields and Melbourne park. McDonalds kindly provided food and drink for all participates from their site. Education FC also hosted a small sporting event for children and carried out sporting consultation with the local community. Education FC provided a small children’s sporting event as well as provided food and drink for volunteers.

Windrush day was introduced in June 2018 on the 70th Anniversary of the Windrush migration. On June 22 1948, Caribbean people were brough to Tilbury Docks, Essex in the UK on the empire Windrush ship.
Some of Leen Valley Residents from the Whitmore Church along with one of the Organizers also from Leen Valley were getting ready in preparation for Windrush Day with the flag. (Mr Powell, Mrs Bushay, Mrs Ellis Charmaine Binns -Muhammad).

A commemorative service took place in the Ballroom at the Council House. The event involved a number of speeches from the Leader of the Council, the Sherriff of Nottingham and members of the Windrush Generation. Your ward councillor Audrey Dinnall was also interviewed by Notts TV about her grandfather and mothers experience as part of the Windrush Generation.
MBE Viv Anderson also in attendance he was the first black footballer to represent England in a full international match. Live performances artists including singers and poetry. New Arts Exchange, Take1 and Hyson Green Boys Club opened their doors to create a three-block heritage zone that hosted a number of activities including Afternoon dinner, Caribbean food for the Windrush Elders with artistic performances, live screening of the service at the Council House.

Weekly events that run on Melbourne Park by Education FC
Cllr Mohammed Saghir and Cllr Audrey Dinnall are keen to make sure there are lots of fun activities for local people. They support a number of groups who provide a wide range of activities for local people to enjoy. Here is a weekly schedule of what is happening on Melbourne Park:
Monday....
- Healthy minds Coffee morning @ 11am (All invited)
- Walking group, all invited to take a nice slow walk or even a brisk walk around the park and Meet new people. 5:30pm (free)
- Beginners Basketball @4:30 (free)
- DL coaching at 6pm £4 per session
Tuesday….
- Multi sports @5pm (free) Notts FC football training.
- Boxing bootcamp with Curtis Valentine @6pm, £5 per session, for adults and children from 12 year s old.
- For adults and children from 12 years old.
- Education FC u18s training 6-7:30 pm
Wednesday….
- Pathway to professional coaching, 5-6 pm for 4 -11 year olds, 6-7 for 11-18 year old, £5 per session.
- Yoga with Michelle Rensler @ 6:30pm, £7 per session if not pre booked.
Thursday….
- Arts and crafts @ 4:30pm, £3 with a meal
- Multi sports and football for children with learning disabilities @ 6-7pm and 7-8pm
- £3 per session Notts FC football training
- Boxing boot camp with Curtis @6pm £5 per session.
Saturday…
- Football tots 9:30 am £3 per session
- Junior and adult football matches
Sunday….
- Junior and adult football matches
- Kick boxing with Kamil Pińkowski @11am, FREE
- K9 dog training and speed ball @10:30am
