Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good evening,

It was another busy week at home in Arizona meeting with constituents and addressing the issues that are important to our district. This week, I toured the White Claw facility in our district to learn about the jobs they are providing our community. I also met with the Arizona Bankers Association to discuss the needs of their customers. I wrapped up the week at the Grand Re-Opening of Sun City 4 Paws which serves our community by providing homes for animals in needs.

Legislative Update

This week, I introduced a resolution to express support for Title 42 Public Health Authorities and recognize the importance of Title 42 in protecting American citizens from exposure to COVID-19. During my recent trip to the Southern Border, agents from throughout our immigration system—Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations and Air and Marine Operations, Border Patrol, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement—all highlighted the importance of Title 42 Public Health Authorities in protecting our nation from COVID-19 and enhancing our border security. It is important we recognize this critical measure and the role it plays in protecting our communities from the spread of COVID-19.

I also pushed back against Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s announcement that the Department of Defense will require active-duty military personnel to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In my letter, I highlight how the decision is a violation of U.S. code, which prohibits the military from requiring vaccination until a vaccine has received full U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval. Read the full letter here.

GET THE FACTS: Infrastructure

As you might have heard, this week, the U.S. Senate passed two massive infrastructure bills. The first, a $1 trillion bipartisan package to address so called “hard” infrastructure, and another $3.5 trillion Democrat wish list. Both of these packages are bad news for our nation. The bipartisan package is a wolf in sheep's clothing—less than 25% of the package is for actual infrastructure. It also includes concepts taught by Critical Race Theory and Green New Deal Policies.

With the other package, we go from bad to worse. President Biden's reckless $3.5 TRILLION tax and spending spree bill is filled with reckless proposals we must stop. The bill calls for the highest sustained federal spending level in American history, spends trillions over the next decade, which will drive up prices at a time when inflation is already skyrocketing, and raises taxes and costs on American families earning under $400,000.

Around the District

It was great to visit the White Claw facility in our district and learn about their investment in our community and employment opportunities they are offering for Arizonans.

I joined the West Valley Defense Alliance for their meeting this week at TYR Tactical. Arizona is fortunate to be home to many wonderful companies in the defense industry. I’m thankful for their many contributions to our community and economy!

For 24 years, Sun City 4 Paws has been an important party of our community and has rescued thousands of cats and kittens. I was honored to attend their Grand Re-Opening!

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because her social security payments were stopped due to a clerical error in May 2021. She tried for 4 months to have the Social Security Administration (SSA) correct the issue but was unsuccessful. We reached out to SSA and they corrected the error which resulted in the constituent receiving her benefits again and receiving backpay for the missed payments.
