John,

Now that the Census Bureau has released the final redistricting data, I want to loop you in on our strategy to prevent GOP gerrymandering over the next few months. This is another longer email, so if you don't have time to read it but want to support the most critical phase of our work, you can chip in here.

Thanks in advance!

First, let's talk about timeframe. We expect many states to release their initial U.S. House and state legislative maps in the next few weeks. The entire redistricting process will be much shorter than usual this year because of the delay in releasing the data due to the pandemic and missteps by the Trump administration. That means we will have to be extra-vigilant about Republican attempts to push through rigged maps without transparency or adequate public input.

Here's the what that means for you:

-- Please keep an eye out for emails in which we ask you to take action (like signing a petition or making a phone call) to stop pro-gerrymandering maneuvering in the redistricting process.

-- If you can afford to make a donation today, it would go a long way toward helping us fight that maneuvering in every state.

Now, let's talk about what we expect from Republicans. The head of the National Republican Redistricting Trust (a gerrymandering front group) has said that he thinks the GOP can draw "20 to 30 reliable seats" for themselves in redistricting. They're being very open about how they expect to use gerrymandering to their political advantage!

So our job is to hold them accountable when they make these kinds of statements and engage the public in demanding fair maps and more competitive elections rather than manipulated maps that ensure GOP victories.

The final components of our strategy include working with our affiliates in key states to mobilize the movement we've built and, where necessary, supporting plaintiffs in lawsuits to protect the redistricting process.

The bottom line is that none of this work is possible without you, John. That's why I'm asking you today if you can help us carry out this strategy that we've been working on for over four years. The time is finally here. Will you rush an immediate donation to help us fight for and achieve fair maps?

Thank you,
Kelly Burton
President
