John,

I’m writing this morning because I’m seriously concerned about the events that have transpired in Texas in the past few weeks.

Last month, Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives attempted to force through a series of measures that would severely undermine Texans’ voting rights. Their demands are far beyond the voting-ID debate we’ve been having for years — this time, the Texas GOP wants to make it hard to vote early, restrict vote-by-mail applications, and eliminate the drive-through voting that made the 2020 election safe and secure in the middle of a global pandemic.

To make sure the GOP couldn’t carry out this attack on our democracy, brave Democratic members of the House left the state in order to prevent a quorum. Just a few days ago, these Democrats were finally able to return to Texas. But now the GOP is threatening to arrest them if they don’t appear on the House floor.

Republicans in Texas are attempting to set a dangerous precedent with these threats, and I want to be vocal in my support of the Texas House Democrats and their efforts to fight back against voter suppression. If you’d like to join me, please add your name to this petition >> [[link removed]]

I want to be clear: these intimidation and coercion tactics have no place in an American legislative body. Help me send a strong message to the GOP — in Texas, in California, and across the country — that we won’t stand for this. [[link removed]]

Thanks for staying vigilant,

Eric
