![]() Hi folks,
The legislature returns from recess tomorrow, Aug 16. It's crucial that they hear a lot of messages from you, opposing SB 9 and SB 10!
Please call each of the below assemblymembers' local district offices this weekend and urge them to oppose SB 9 and SB 10. Leaving a message after hours, on the district office voicemail, is equally acceptable and effective!

We ask you to please DONATE to Livable California today. We are small fry, fighting deep pockets and major special interests who seek to pave over thriving communities to build other communities. To them, it’s just an investment. To us, it’s a community. Your help lets us get out crucial information to turn the tide.
Background: Thousands of single-family streets in California will be destroyed to build multi-unit projects if SB 9 and SB 10 become law. Your block, too.
Legislators have heard overwhelming opposition to SB 9 and SB 10 from thousands of you. And legislators have seen the stunning new poll by famed pollster David Binder, showing landslide opposition to SB 9 (71% of California voters oppose SB 9!) and SB 10 (75% of California voters oppose SB 10!) That is huge opposition. But now legislators must get an avalanche of objections from you. If not, SB 9 and SB 10 could be approved by just 41 legislators in the coming days. And right now, big money talks in Sacramento.
SB 9:
SB 9 lets developers buy the home next to YOURS to build 6-unit housing projects. They won’t have yards OR garages. There will be NO public hearings before destruction begins. Not even in severe fire zones. There will be NO affordable housing under SB 9, the one thing Californians badly need.
Peddled as a way for you to build multiple houses in your yard, few homeowners can pay off their existing mortgage to finance construction on the “lot split” as required. SB 9 wasn’t written for homeowners. It was written for investors who are already bidding hard against families trying to buy homes. We must stop this bill.
SB 10:
SB 10 allows city councils to override local zoning, and the California Environmental Quality Act, and voter-approved land protections, to erect 14-unit market-rate buildings almost everywhere. Including in fire zones that have faced tragedy and evacuation challenges. Even in Paradise and Greenville.
Under SB 10, developers can build, next to YOUR home, a “10-unit” project with 4 added granny flats, totaling 14 units. As with SB 9: No hearing. No yard. No affordability.
Amidst drought and severe fires, neither SB 9 or SB 10 requires being ready for the environmental or infrastructure impacts of the bills, such as the demand for water, energy, sewer capacity or classroom space.
You must voice opposition NOW, because you lose your right to object if SB 9 and SB 10 are passed and signed by the Governor.
