Earlier this week, state politicians received the census data they need to
move forward with the once-in-a-decade redistricting process. They’ll be
re-drawing voting districts across the country to reflect the census data.
In dozens of these states, lawmakers are preparing to gerrymander district
maps behind closed doors — deciding which voters they want to keep in
which district, and which they want to cut out  — rigging them to
virtually guarantee their own reelection. 

When politicians get to pick their voters instead of the other way around,
they’re no longer accountable to the voters. They’re able to remain in
power year-after-year without having to earn your vote. 

Gerrymandering undermines the very integrity of our elections. It’s as
unAmerican as it is unethical — a corrupt practice that allows our elected
officials to ignore the needs of their communities and their voters.
