Friend,
My name is Debbi, and on Feb. 14, 2018, my husband Chris was killed when a shooter opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Chris died while trying to disarm the shooter and protect his students.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Chris is his smile. He was always positive, always laughing and always, always made everyone and everything around him better. He dedicated his life to helping others, and that's also how he died.
I can't bring Chris back, but I can honor his life by doing everything in my power to prevent the next mass shooting. Will you donate $5 to help Ban Assault Weapons NOW reach its $15,000 mid-month goal and finally ban the weapon of war that killed my husband?

My husband was a military man who was always willing to sacrifice himself for others – so when there was a shooting at his school, I knew he would be the first to intervene. On my husband's tombstone, we wrote, "If not me, then who?" to honor the ultimate sacrifice he made to protect others.
Since his death, I've begun advocating for gun violence prevention so that no family has to experience the grief and heartbreak that myself and my two sons have had to grapple with. That's why in this past three years, I've partnered with BAWN and become a member of the school board where I work to keep kids safe in schools.
But as students return this year, I'm worried. NRA-backed politicians like Ron DeSantis haven't done anything to keep our students safe from gun violence, and I can't help but feel that the country's next tragedy could be right around the corner.
That's why I need your help: BAWN needs to raise $15,000 by tomorrow at midnight to ban assault weapons and prevent the next mass shooting – so we're counting on you to make a donation today:
Please, will you give $5 or more right now – as much as you can spare – to help honor my husband, Chris, and the 16 other lives we lost in Parkland? Every dollar you can give makes a difference in this fight to save lives.

If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Thank you for joining me in this fight to save lives. I hope the light of Chris’ life will shine through the darkness of this horrible tragedy, motivating each of us to step up and do the right thing, even if it comes at a great cost.
