When people think about what Congress members look like, it’s not me.
I don’t have a college degree.
I grew up in public housing.
I’m not a millionaire.
You see the issue, John?
While I might not bring the most education or money to the House, I do bring one thing that many members of Congress don’t have:
Lived experience.
Growing up as a poor kid in the district I now represent informs everything I do in Congress.
It’s why I fight so hard for things like the Child Tax Credit, safe and affordable housing, and the Equality Act: I know firsthand why we need them.
So when I say this fight is personal for me, I mean it.
Being a millionaire would certainly make it easier to run for Congress -- if I was one, I could ask fellow rich, corporate friends for help to run this race.
