Social Security is the most successful anti-poverty program in the history of the United States.

But for years now, Republican politicians have tried to gut Social Security or privatize it to increase Wall Street profits. Last year, they threatened to divert billions of dollars from the program.

Social Security has saved millions of seniors and families from poverty. It represents a promise to every generation that we'll make sure they have a basic level of security in old age, or if they become disabled, or lose a parent or spouse.

We need to keep that promise. And we can, by making modest changes like ensuring that every American pays their fair share.
