The blatant threats to our democracy continue, John.

Just days ago, the Department of Homeland Security warned of rising threats of violence from Trump conspiracists.

We must protect our democracy at all costs, John. And that includes by proactively guarding against threats of armed voter intimidation. 

Fortunately, Rep. Raul Ruiz (CA-36) just introduced life-saving legislation — the Vote Without Fear Act — to prevent armed intimation and safeguard our democratic process. This vital piece of legislation would prohibit firearms within 100 yards of a federal election site. It would, effectively, protect all voters on Election Day from armed intimidation.

It shouldn’t be an uphill battle to pass this pro-democracy legislation. But Trump extremists and fringe groups will stop at nothing to prevent this bill from advancing in the House of Representatives. We can’t let them win. That’s why we need your help right now, friend.

But we know the truth: Ghost guns are real guns. They pose one of the greatest growing threats to our public safety in America. These homemade, untraceable firearms are designed to evade gun laws — and the NRA and gun lobby wants to keep it that way.

This week, we recognize Brady’s Summer 2021 Internship class as our Gun Violence Prevention Heroes.

A virtual hangout with summer 2021 Brady Interns and program managers. 

We were recently honored for Brady’s internship program to be nominated for the 2021 “Top 100 Internship Programs” in America. This summer, even amid a global pandemic and a fully remote internship, our 26 interns excelled in furthering our mission to prevent gun violence. Here’s a look at what they accomplished:

• Policy interns crafted testimonies, talking points, and policy reports for Brady’s work in Congress and local and state legislatures across the country.
• Organizing interns mobilized hundreds of activists in Florida for the Team ENOUGH Recruitment Tour and helped center the voices and stories of gun violence survivors.
• Communications and End Family Fire interns grew our Facebook alumni network, created new content for social media (including Team ENOUGH’s new Tik-Tok), and helped develop the next phase of our End Family Fire program.
• Development and Partnership interns conducted donor outreach, grew our partnerships, supported Brady’s Regional Leadership Councils, and spearheaded virtual events for Brady donors with Brady President Kris Brown.
• Legal and Crime Guns interns supported landmark legal cases through research and helped highlight Brady’s groundbreaking USA Today exclusive on the ATF and negligent gun dealers.
• Finance interns supported Brady’s finance team as we closed our fiscal year amid a global pandemic, allowing Brady to continue their vital work in Congress, courts, and communities.

We’re grateful for our passionate interns, and we’re proud to help shepherd the next generation of leaders. Applications are open now for our paid Fall 2021 internship class.

Please, urge your senators to refuse to entertain the gun lobby’s lies and vote to confirm the nomination of David Chipman to lead the ATF.
