Atlas Network has funded an extensive study by Foreign Policy Analytics to examine the decisive role of think tanks around the world. Two weeks ago, Foreign Policy and Atlas Network held a virtual presentation and discussion of the results featuring Matt Warner and Atlas Network partners. If you missed the opportunity to take part in the event, it’s not too late to engage with the discussion or the report!
Here you can read more about the study and see its findings broken down into helpful data visualizations, and you can watch the whole event below.
I've found a lot of really interesting insights from the research study. To share a few—according to the report, nearly 70% of think tank leaders in democracies are concerned about local governance issues, while even more (74%) share those concerns in anocracies. Similarly, almost two-thirds of think tank leaders in anocracies (64%) worry about democratic decline. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated those concerns: In democracies, 61% of think tank leaders claim the pandemic has had a substantial impact on poverty, while 52% say the same for governance challenges. In anocracies, meanwhile, 57% of think tank leaders believe the pandemic has substantially impacted the state of democratic norms, while even more (60%) say the same for governance challenges.
