Dear
Friend
--
We are all very excited about the return of performances by our
Long Beach Municipal Band starting early next week. During its 112
year history, our municipal band has brought neighbors together to
enjoy free music as one community. It has been a hallmark of summers
in our city and this year will be no different.
The first week’s theme is “Strike Up the Band” and will take
listeners on a journey through major American music genres including
movie scores, musicals, the Big Band era and pop. The second half of
the program will feature renowned jazz and blues singer Ms. Barbara
Morrison, performing with the band. All concerts will start at 6:30
p.m. Here is the schedule for the first week:
-
Tuesday, Aug. 17, Whaley Park, 5620 Atherton St.
-
Wednesday, Aug. 18, Los Cerritos Park, 3750 Del Mar
Ave.
-
Thursday, Aug. 19, Marine Stadium Park, 5255 E Paoli
Way
-
Friday, Aug. 20, El Dorado Park West, 2800 Studebaker
Road
The second week's theme is “A Celebration Through Music” and will
pay tribute to the late Larry Curtis, longtime conductor of the Long
Beach Municipal Band and father to our newly appointed conductor, Kurt
Curtis. Here is the schedule for the second week:
-
Tuesday, Aug. 24, Bluff Park, 2500 E. Ocean
Blvd.
