I don't know about you, John, but every time the US Supreme Court takes up a case these days, I shudder to think about what they might do.

Two weeks ago, the Court decided to hear a case from Louisiana about a law that would force doctors to have hospital admitting privileges before they can perform abortions in a nearby clinic. Such a requirement would not make abortions any safer, but it would likely force two of the remaining three abortion clinics in Louisiana to close.

Louisiana's is just one of many jurisdictions whose Republican legislatures have passed new rules like these, encouraged by the arrival of Trump appointees Gorsuch and Kavanaugh on the highest court in our land.

We have a name for these unnecessary and burdensome regulations. We call them TRAPS - targeted restrictions on abortion providers. These laws dangerously chip away at abortion access under the guise of women's health - and there are way too many of them!

On top of the negative impact of TRAPS on access to abortion, Roe v. Wade, which must remain the law of the land, is under greater threat than ever.

I am proud to live in Oregon where we guarantee reproductive rights with our Reproductive Health Equity Act and where we are the only state left with no restrictions on abortion.

I'm incredibly honored to be leading 21 states in the fight against the Trump Administration's awful Title X "Gag Rule." If upheld, this rule could cause the closure of family planning clinics that provide medical care to thousands of underserved patients throughout the country.

As Oregon's Attorney General, I promise to keep doing whatever is necessary to protect the basic rights of women in our state.

But all the leadership in the world is not enough if we do not take the Senate and the White House back from Republicans. And we must stop the flow of anti-abortion legislators and judges flooding courts and statehouses around the country.

Thank you for helping us in this all-important battle to preserve reproductive freedoms!

Ellen
