This Week in Woke Capitol: A Hot Mess

US Capitol and Traffic

Typically, Members of Congress take a break from Washington, D.C. during the hot month of August. But this year is different- much different. Congress was hard at work in our nation’s capital, but in all the wrong ways. And it’s a mess.

Two big spending bills were passed in the Senate this week.

First, the Senate – including 19 Republicans- voted to pass its $1 trillion infrastructure bill. The bill retains “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” language. These are the same words used in the federal Equality Act, which Americans have spoken decisively against.

In fact, thousands of you continue to speak out against this agenda. Just this week alone, Family Policy Alliance supporters sent over 26,000 messages to Congress to oppose this radical Equality Act Language in the infrastructure bill.

The infrastructure bill has been sent to the House and we will keep you updated as the fight continues.

Second, after the Democrat-led Senate passed the infrastructure bill, they moved on to the $3.5 trillion Fiscal Year 2022 budget.

Thankfully, there is some good news! Senator James Lankford (OK) successfully led an amendment to the budget resolution which prohibits the use of taxpayer dollars for abortions. Senator Lankford’s amendment also protects the conscience rights of health care providers from being forced to participate in abortions. This is an important step towards protecting the Hyde Amendment in federal spending.

Another positive amendment that was added to the Senate budget resolution was by Senator Tom Cotton (AR), which prohibits taxpayer funds from being used to promote Critical Race Theory in prekindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools.

Both of these important amendments prove that conservatives still have the ability to win key battles - even with radical Congressional leadership.

That’s it for the highs and lows in Congress this week. Here’s a look at Congress’ upcoming forecast:

Before the Senate adjourned until September, they placed S1, the “Corrupt Politicians Act,” on the Senate Calendar. A vote on the Senate floor could be imminent when they return in September. S1 is an attempt at a dangerous federal election takeover. This legislation will increase voter fraud, politicize elections, and more.

Learn about the dangers of S1 and take action here!

The House is also working overtime by returning earlier than planned on August 23rd. Reports show they plan to take on the 2022 Fiscal Year Budget and radical election changes similar to S1, the “Corrupt Politicians Act,” as well.

While Congress takes the next week to cool off, our team is getting warmed up for the long fights ahead. Babies in the womb and future generations of Americans are worth protecting- no matter how heated the battle becomes.
