Our lone group this past Saturday went on a difficult hike during the intense summer weather. A route that normally is done under cooler conditions, it was imperative to check the status of the supply stock in these canyons while temperatures fluctuate around 110-120 degrees on a constant basis during the week.

While we did not find as many supplies taken or used along this route as we had hoped, it was important to change out the cans of food and bottles of water that are out there, as we regularly change out the supplies if they are not used in a certain amount of time. This is to ensure the safety of those crossing through.

On a positive note, we found worndown used socks that were changed out for fresh socks that we previously left out. During these hot and humid months, something as small as foot blisters can mean the difference between being mobile and immobile, and increases the chance of needing rescue and/or recovery. A difference between life and death.

We have added two new shelters to our Border Angels shelter network!🏡

The first is El Jardin de Mariposas, or "Butterfly Garden" is an LGBTQI+ inclusive shelter currently housing over 50 migrants. 🌈
The second is Nuevo Pacto, the only migrant shelter currently active in Tecate!

Casa de Oracion now has some brand new wheels thanks to you and your support! 🚗

We're so happy that our migrant siblings have a means of transportation at this shelter, and a car to fill when going grocery shopping. Our Shelter Aid program assists Tijuana in more ways than one. From buying groceries, to paying rent, to creating dignified living spaces.
With this new vehicle, we are also helping the shelter be more self-sufficient. Although we are all still not able to be in TIjuana physically, we are finding new solutions to continue our support!

Shelter Aid renovations all around for our supported Tijuana shelters! This time we're helping out Pro Amore Dei laying in some tile in their bathroom and making sure to fix a very problematic leak. Pro Amore Dei shelter houses primarily women and children, and we are grateful to provide more dignified living spaces for all of them.

** After Texas Court Ruling, What’s the Future for Young Immigrants and DACA Recipients?

Hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the U.S. are in limbo, after U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen ruled last Friday against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program launched in 2012 by former President Barack Obama. The program provides temporary protection from deportation, and work authorization, to undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. Hanen, based in Texas, argued that DACA was created illegally.
The decision does not end legal protections for the roughly 616,000 current DACA participants. However, the legal decision does suspend approvals of new applications and leaves the door open for DACA to be terminated in the future.

"Sad, tired, frustrated and exhausted. All of these attacks in our communities have taken a toll on us physically and emotionally. The last few years have been very difficult. We were physically at the steps of the Supreme Court and we celebrated a victory last year when we received the opinion of the Supreme Court.
We thought with the change of administration, perhaps there was new hope renewed. This takes us back. It's unbelievable that we're in this place yet again where our livelihoods are compromised, where the uncertainty is still there and our lives are still very much in limbo."- Dulce Garcia

** Summer Turns Deadly for US-Bound Migrants Braving Scorching Desert Heat

Record-setting migration to the U.S.-Mexico border and scorching heat waves are contributing to an especially deadly summer for migrants negotiating desolate and unforgiving desert terrain in hopes of reaching the United States.
Humanitarian groups working along the border believe the actual migrant death toll is much higher than what has been officially reported over the years, with some bodies never found.
Border Angels, a nonprofit organization in San Diego, California, that supports more than 15 shelters in Tijuana, Mexico, estimates that over the past 27 years, more than 11,000 migrants have perished in their attempt to cross the southern border.
"But we will never know for sure," said Border Angels Executive Director Dulce Garcia.
