Dear John
We are approaching a monumental milestone in our city’s reawakening from the pandemic: Monday, September 13-- the day when NYC public school children, laden with masks, hand sanitizer, maybe a new pair of sneakers, and the memories of summer will head back into their schools to meet their new teachers for the first time and return to full-time in person learning. For our youngest learners, this may be their first experience in a school building. For our high school seniors, it will mark the beginning of the end of this chapter in their lives. We may not have all the information we would want on school reopening right now, and it may look different than previous years, but we surely all agree that our kids should have everything they need to make this pivotal year a success.
I am reaching out to you today because a number of organizations, including Camp Friendship ([link removed]) and the Warren Street Tenants Association representing the Warren Street Houses have reached out to my office to support their back-to-school backpack drives. I would like to encourage you as you shop for school supplies for your own children or grandchildren to please keep these wonderful community mutual aid organizations in mind and if you can, purchase an extra backpack for them to distribute to children in need in September.
For the Warren Street Houses, backpack drop off at my office: 456 5th Avenue, 3rd Floor, Monday-Thursday 9 AM-5 PM
For backpack drop off at Camp Friendship: 339 8th Street, Fridays 6-8 PM or Saturdays 9 AM-12 PM. You can also donate money for backpacks and other needs at Camp Friendship here ([link removed]) .
As always, as guidance and information evolve we will be sure to update you. And if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to my office at 718.499.1090 or
[email protected] (mailto:

Thank you in advance for your generosity, stay cool and enjoy the weekend!
Brad
