Here’s what we’re looking at across the states

Swing Left

Hi there,

Yesterday, the Census Bureau finally released highly-anticipated redistricting data that will allow states to begin drawing new congressional maps. As expected, the data show a historically diverse population, with growth almost entirely confined to the nation’s major metropolitan areas. Now, after months of delays due to the pandemic and the Trump administration’s incompetence, states are scrambling to draft proposal maps that will dictate the battle for Congress over the next decade.

Over the next two months, we could see proposed maps from up to seven key states where Swing Left expects to have at least one congressional target for 2022. While all proposal maps are sure to undergo substantial changes before final passage, these seven states could account for up to one-third of the most competitive Congressional Districts across the country in 2022:

Map highlighting Colorado, Maine, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia

The timing for finalizing many of these maps is still up in the air and varies by state. For instance, the Texas state legislature may be forced to delay redistricting as Republicans continue their attempts to pass a sweeping voter suppression law. But, with the redistricting process now formally underway in 44 states, we cannot wait to raise early funds if we want to hold the House majority in 2022.

Support House Dems

We’ll keep you updated on how the redistricting process is affecting the battle for the congressional majority in 2022 as more proposed maps are released. We’ll also be in touch with ways you can get involved in key races in our to-be-determined target districts as soon as new congressional maps are approved.

While we wait for new maps, it’s crucial that we prepare by raising grassroots dollars for the eventual nominees in the critical races that will determine the majority in 2022. Donate now to Swing Left’s National Incumbent Defense Fund and 100% of your donation will go to Democratic incumbents defending their seats in the most competitive districts across the country.

Thank you for your continued support.
