Dear John,
Tomorrow we celebrate Social Security’s 86th Anniversary! That’s 86 years of this cherished program providing millions of Americans a basic income for as long as they live. But Social Security may not be around for our children and grandchildren if enemies of this program succeed in convincing Congress to slash earned benefits in order to reduce soaring deficits and pay for unrelated fiscal priorities.
As someone who has paid into and is counting on their earned benefit for a secure retirement, I urge you to take a stand in support of Social Security. Please make a Social Security Anniversary Gift of $10 or $5 to help the National Committee protect and strengthen this vital lifeline for millions of Americans and their families.
Incredibly, baseline Social Security benefits have not been expanded in 50 years — even though seniors’ cost of living has soared over the past few decades. As a result, many older Americans struggle to make ends meet.
That’s why the National Committee is fighting to pass U.S. Representative John Larson’s (CT-01) revamped Social Security bill to increase benefits, improve the Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) and extend the program’s solvency by requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share into Social Security. And we urge lawmakers to take up this bill as soon as it’s introduced in September.
Now is the time to strengthen and expand Social Security — and enhance seniors’ retirement security. So please help us continue to hold the line on Social Security benefit cuts and pass legislation that will increase benefits across the board for all Social Security beneficiaries today!
Sincerely,
|
