Get the Family and Fire Fighter
Protection Act Signed
Chemical manufacturers seem to be trying to take advantage of the changes in Albany by bombarding the New York State Governor’s office with false claims about flame retardants in a last-ditch effort to scuttle our JustGreen Partnership's Family and Fire Fighter Protection Act. This legislation, which is supported by both environmentalists and fire fighters, passed both chambers and is waiting to be signed into law. If you live in New York State, help keep our communities free of toxics by sending a letter of support for the bill via this link! Send a Letter of Support ([link removed])

Heatwaves, like the one we're currently enduring in New York City, are the deadliest impact of climate change, and communities of color experience both higher temperatures and more heat-related illnesses and deaths. Early this week, the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued an alarming report that calls for bold, swift action to address the climate crisis. Our coalition for a Gas Free NYC issued a statement urging the New York City Council – and Speaker Corey Johnson, in particular – to pass Intro 2317, which will eliminate fossil fuel hookups in new construction and gut renovations. This is critical for New York City, because about 70 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions come from buildings burning fossil fuels. And Pamela Stewart-Martinez spoke with Grist ([link removed]) about the impact that redistricting based on the newly released census data could have on the environmental justice movement and the communities it supports. Read the Article ([link removed])
