Friend, As we race towards the recall election on September 14th, we’re growing concerned that the baseless effort to replace Governor Newsom with a pro-polluter, climate crisis denier could actually succeed. With the IPCC report on global climate recently confirming the global community is nowhere close to doing enough to mitigate the climate crisis, we cannot risk having a climate denier in the California’s Governor’s office at this crucial time. Governor Newsom has demonstrated he is an environmental champion. He signed an executive order that will prohibit the sale of new passenger cars, buses and trucks that use gasoline by 2035 and 2045, respectively; he ordered an end to new fracking permits by 2024, and to phase out fossil fuel extraction by 2045; and he signed an executive order to protect 30% of California’s land and water by 2030. A pro-polluter governor at the helm in California— the world’s fifth-largest economy— will wreak havoc on our environmental future.
