Senate Passes Save Women's Sports and Pro-Life Bills (Again)

Yesterday, the Texas Senate had two wins!  It voted and passed the Save Women’s Sports bill (SB 2) with 19-10 votes and the Chemical Abortion Restriction bill (SB 4) with 19-10 votes. SB 2 prohibits biological males from competing in University Interscholastic League (UIL) sports for middle schools and high schools. SB 4 restricts and regulates chemical abortions in Texas.

Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values said:

“The Texas Senate once again demonstrates unwavering support of important bills that protect women and girls. Biological males should not be allowed to play on girls’ sports teams and take opportunities away from girls who have worked so hard to advance in their sport. This is about fairness, and when you ignore biological reality, girls get hurt.”

Texas DFPS to Gov. Abbott: Genital Mutilation Through Reassignment Surgery Constitutes Child Abuse

On August 11, Governor Abbott received a response from Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner Jaime Masters regarding whether genital mutilation of a child for purposes of gender transitioning through reassignment surgery constitutes child abuse.

In the letter, Commissioner Masters determined that genital mutation of a child through reassignment surgery constitutes child abuse because it may cause a genuine threat of substantial harm from physical injury to the child.

In response, Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values said:

“We agree with the child experts on this issue, ‘genital mutilation of a child through reassignment surgery is child abuse,’ and we are thankful that Gov. Abbott’s concern on these cruel and damaging acts on children has led to this ruling. We now should make this finding permanent by passing a state law by Rep. Matt Krause to stop genital mutilation and gender modification on children once and for all in Texas.”
