ncy=alpha John,
When the eviction moratorium was first
instituted, it was designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. At least
that’s what the CDC claimed.
Last week it was EXTENDED by Biden
administration bureaucrats, despite a clear ruling from the U.S.
Supreme Court that the administration did not have the authority to do
so.
This is “progressive” overreach, plain and simple. It’s a
substitute for economic legislation the Democrats could not pass,
forced on us under the guise of public health.
There needs to be
REAL consequences.
This moratorium is disastrous for countless
smaller landlords. When they cannot collect rent, and cannot remove a
non-paying tenant, economic devastation is inevitable.
Beyond
individual concerns, the entire housing market will be impacted too. An
extended eviction moratorium will ultimately force landlords out of the
business, exacerbating future shortages in affordable housing.
Our
economy is facing an unprecedented labor shortage, and Congress has
allocated more than $46 BILLION in rental assistance. Enough is enough
of disincentivizing people from being contributing members of our
society.
This latest move by the Biden administration is bad policy,
period. We need to challenge it aggressively and ramp up public
pressure to reverse it.
