Dear John,
With fall elections around the corner, it’s never too early to start thinking about the next time you’ll be voting. Here are three simple actions you should take now so that when your next voting opportunity comes along, you’re ready to go:
If you have one minute: Check your voter registration (#checkyourreg).
We recommend that you check your voter registration file regularly to make sure it is active, hasn’t been tampered with, and that you are still eligible to vote. #checkyourreg here, and if you see a problem, contact your local election official immediately to get your registration reinstated. You can find your election official’s contact information by visiting the Verifier and clicking on your state and county.
If you have five minutes: Check your voting equipment in advance.
Knowing what type of voting equipment you’ll be using to cast your vote will help speed up your Election Day voting process. Visit the Verifier, click on the timeline to see if it has changed from previous elections, and spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with the equipment by looking it up in our Voting Equipment Database. If you want to contact your local election officials to learn more about any new voting equipment, we’ve put together a handy guide for you: “What to Ask When Election Technology Is Introduced.”
If you can volunteer your time: Become a poll worker.
Elections are run at the local level, and each year millions of our friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues sign up as poll workers to help ensure that our elections run smoothly. Your election office needs poll workers now more than ever. If you’re able to dedicate a day (or even a few hours) to help our democracy run, visit the Election Assistance Commission’s website or your local election office’s website for more details.
Every day, decisions are made at the local level that have a very real impact on our lives, which is why local elections in “off years” are just as important as federal election years. Help us spread the word with a gift or by sharing this email with your contacts, today.
With thanks,
The Verified Voting Team
