This week, the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a frightening report on climate change that UN Secretary-General António Guterres summarized as "a code red for humanity."

The report concludes that we are rapidly approaching a global rise in temperature of 1.5 degrees celsius much faster than previously anticipated — a threshold that is likely to cause catastrophic damage to our natural systems and threaten human life all over the world.

This report marks the first time the IPCC is saying that it’s “unequivocal” that human activity is causing climate change.

I, for one, am unable to look my young granddaughter in the face without feeling a deep responsibility to do everything in my power to prevent the worst outcomes. If we don’t act now, untold suffering awaits future generations who will be inheriting a significantly changed planet.
