Friend,
Millions of people with disabilities, including many military veterans, will have their right to vote taken away by Republican-run state governments—unless the Senate passes the For the People Act.
If passed, the bill would guarantee early voting, mail-in voting, and other voting protections, effectively overriding the frightening wave of state-level voting restrictions.
Sign now to urge senators to pass the For The People Act, including getting rid of the filibuster so we can pass this and other legislation without constant Republican obstruction.
All Americans deserve an equal voice in the elections that shape our future.
But across the country, Republican state voter suppression laws have hit veterans with disabilities particularly hard. Restricting the ability to vote could disenfranchise veterans from the democratic rights they sacrificed so much to defend.
Many of America’s 4.7 million veterans with service-related disabilities can’t drive to a polling place, stand in line for long hours, or go to a crowded or chaotic polling place.
That’s why we’re joining our allies at Common Defense, a progressive veterans group, to spread the word about this issue.
They’re big fans of the For the People Act, because it would guarantee people with disabilities the right to vote in whatever ways work best for them. That includes making drop boxes accessible and requiring voting locations to expand accessible voting systems.
The bill would also require states to send disabled voters applications to register to vote and to vote absentee. If passed, states would also need to establish an office responsible for providing people with disabilities the information they need to vote.
We must ensure our democracy is accessible to ALL of us.
And in an era where our Supreme Court is further dismantling the Voting Rights Act, we need the Senate to take action for our democracy. That includes ending the filibuster so we can actually pass critical bills like the For The People Act.
Sign now to tell senators: Protect democracy for disabled veterans and all Americans—not corrupt opponents of democracy.
Thank you,
Rashida
