Hey Swing Left,

Here’s the good news: Together we’re writing an incredible number of letters to Virginia voters. With three weeks to go until Election Day, Swing Left volunteers have committed to writing 151,235 letters. You’ve already blown past our 150K goal!

But here’s some scary news: Our data shows that the race for control of the Virginia state legislature is going to be extremely close. In 2017, Republicans won the majority by razor-thin margins—so thin that one race was determined by drawing a name from a bowl. That tiebreaker tipped the House of Delegates in the GOP’s favor. Two years later, it’s looking close again.

So we’ve got to go bigger if we want Democrats to win. We’re adding 75,000 more voters to our turnout campaign, and need your help to reach them by our deadline—all the letters need to be written and mailed by October 29th. A Democratic legislature could finally pass the well of progressive legislation Virginia Republicans have been blocking for the last decade. They could also redraw fair electoral maps in 2021, putting a stop to racial gerrymandering in the state and making sure every vote actually counts.

Right now, control of the Virginia legislature is a total toss-up, and will come down to whichever party can turn out the most voters. We know there are enough Democratic-leaning voters in the state to elect a blue majority. We can’t let Republicans win.

Writing voter turnout letters is easy and effective. You claim your letters, print them out, complete the contact info, and write a few words on why it’s so important to vote in Virginia. Then you stick them in the mail. It takes 15 minutes to write 5 letters, and it makes a difference.

Our Democratic candidates running in Swing Districts need all the help they can get. Help write some letters to turn out Virginia voters, from wherever you live.
