Hi Friend,
Senator Carol Alvarado stepped off the Senate floor this morning after 15 hours of filibustering the racist, anti-democratic, anti-voter bill pushed by Texas Republicans. She was the first Latina to filibuster legislation in the Texas Senate, and overnight her filibuster set the record by a female senator.
“Democracy is only as strong as those who fight to uphold it...As a Texas Democrat, I renew this vow to stand up and renew our democracy, as long as I can stand here tonight.”
Senator Carol Alvarado
She’s still fighting to ensure that every eligible Black and Brown voter across our state is able to make their voice heard. She’s still fighting to ensure voters with disabilities have access to the ballot box. She’s still fighting for all of us.
A contribution of just $7 can help protect democracy in Texas and across the country. Friend, can we count on you to rush a contribution of $7?
Yes, I'll chip in $7: [link removed]
Though Texas Republicans ultimately passed this bill through the senate, the fight for the freedom to vote is far from over here in Texas.
I’m happy to be standing alongside her fighting the good fight as a Texas Democrat. This is a fight that will take every one of us. As Senator Alvarado stated in her closing remarks, “voter suppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.” We cannot and will not let up.
In service and hope,
