John,
Last week, President Biden authorized an extension of the student loan payment freeze through the end of the year.
Good news: This will reduce the financial burden of student loan debt for borrowers in the short term as we continue to withstand the COVID crisis.
Next step? Let’s cancel student debt. This is a racial and economic justice issue, and simply delaying student loan payments will not be enough to ease the burden of crushing debt in the long term.

CANCEL STUDENT DEBT [[link removed]?]
In total, it’s estimated that more than 44 million Americans are burdened by a collective $1.7 trillion in student debt.
Student debt IS a racial justice issue. Black student borrowers are forced to take on a disproportionate amount of student debt relative to their white counterparts. Debt exceeds their net worth for a majority of Black borrowers who consistently owe more than white borrowers due to decades generational wealth inequities.
It’s simple: cancelling student debt would address one of the biggest factors contributing to the racial wealth gap and create a more just society for all of us.
The Biden administration’s extension of the student loan forbearance was a good step in the right direction, but bolder action is required to ease the burden of crushing student debt too many young Americans are faced with.
No more delays, the time is now to cancel student debt and close the racial wealth gap. Add your name if you agree we need to provide permanent relief for student borrowers: [[link removed]?]

Thank you for taking action in favor of racial and economic justice.
