Dear John,
Today, the 2020 U.S. Census data will finally be released, officially kicking off the redistricting process. It’s no secret that the 2020 U.S. Census was a disaster. The Trump Administration worked hard to interfere with the Census at every level – from changing the collection schedule to intimidating immigrants and communities of color. Republicans have already made it clear that they plan to use nefarious tactics to skew the new maps in their favor.
John, if you already know the importance of holding elected officials accountable for fair redistricting, we’re asking you to donate now to help us do just that through our State Bridges program. Thanks to a generous donor, your contribution will be TRIPLED up to $5,000! But if you’d like to know more first, read on!
To fight gerrymandering in an enduring way, we must start with our communities. This year, we launched our State Bridges program, which supports grassroots groups building long-term power on the ground. This program helps fund community-based organizations in our 2021-2022 target states who will hold their representatives’ feet to the fire when it comes to drawing fair maps.
Unfortunately, we’ve fallen short on our goal for our State Bridges partners in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. That’s why we’re reaching out to you now to help us close that gap.
Now for the good news. An incredibly generous donor has agreed to provide a matching fund of $15,000 if we’re able to meet our goal of $5,000 by the end of next week. That means your gift will be TRIPLED if we hit our goal!
The maps that are being drawn right now will determine control of Congress and our state legislatures for the next decade. We must act now to ensure that the commissions and legislators in charge are held accountable and all communities are fairly represented.
In solidarity,
The Sister District Team
