Florida Hospitals Are Filling Up As COVID-19 Cases Hit An All-Time High — NPR

Team,

We need to talk about Florida Republicans’ response COVID-19 — I’m really concerned that our numbers, despite the widespread availability of vaccines, are surging higher than ever before statewide.

GOP lawmakers like Governor Ron DeSantis are making it difficult — if not impossible — for municipalities to institute mandates that would slow the spread of the Delta variant, which is now out of control in our state.

I’m outraged that our governor and his allies won’t take the necessary actions to save Florida lives. Do you agree that our state should be doing more to protect Floridians and get them vaccinated? Take my survey in the next 48 hours to let me know where you stand:

Florida Republicans have failed in their role to protect our state, and if we don’t act right away, it’s only going to get worse.

House Democrats passed billions of dollars worth of funding to support our communities through this pandemic — much of which Governor DeSantis chose not to spend on meaningful action for Floridians. We also pushed hard to get more shots in arms to end this pandemic, making millions available around the country.

The fact that Florida is trailing so far behind on inoculations despite that work is not fair to our hospital and other frontline workers, or to the families of those who have lost their lives.

The effects of this pandemic are bigger than any one of us and what we individually may or may not think. It’s time to band together and put the future of our communities first.

Always,

Lois
