Could you help us find some great candidates for these crucial climate jobs? No images? Click here Dear John, Last month, the Dáil debated the Climate Bill for the final time and soon after the President signed it into law. It was a historic moment that is the product of a decade’s campaigning by the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, civil society and climate activists across the country. Without the tireless actions of Stop Climate Chaos supporters like you, Ireland would never have achieved a climate law as strong as this one. Every e-action you’ve taken, every mass TD lobby you’ve attended, every phone call with your TDs, they have all made a difference. Climate action groups across Ireland - such as the growing network of One Future groups - had a big impact in strengthening the Climate Bill over the last 9 months. So please do take time to celebrate what we’ve achieved together. Of course the Climate Law is just the starting line. Targets are only as good as the actions taken to meet them, and the Government’s upcoming Climate Action Plan needs to set out the policies and measures we need to deliver rapid and sustained emissions reductions every year. Not only that, but the level of ambition in the Climate Law will need to be increased. The current targets, while challenging, are still far short of Ireland’s fair share of the global effort required to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. So we’ve lots of work to do to up our ambition and ensure that the action needed to deliver on our targets - and go beyond them - actually takes place. You can read more on Stop Climate Chaos' reaction to the Climate Law here. Stop Climate Chaos is sad to be saying goodbye to two wonderful members of our team, who were employed by Friends of the Earth to work for the coalition, Áine O’Gorman and Sadhbh O’Neill. Áine and Sadhbh were instrumental in our work to get the Climate Bill passed into law and will be greatly missed. We wish them well as they embark on their next adventures. Friends of the Earth is now recruiting a Climate Policy Coordinator and a Network Development Coordinator, both of whom will play important roles in supporting the Stop Climate Chaos coalition. One of these positions could be the perfect job for you - or for someone that you know! Could you help us find some great candidates by forwarding this email to a friend or sharing the job adverts on Twitter here, Instagram herewww.instagram.com and Facebook here. The Climate Policy Coordinator will lead our climate policy analysis and advocacy work. They will play a key role in driving policy development and advocacy work in support of faster and fairer climate action. It’s an exciting time to take up this role, as the Climate Law comes into force and we work to influence the first set of 5 year carbon budgets and the Climate Action Plan. With the COP26 UN Climate talks taking place in Glasgow this November, there’s lots happening on the international stage too! The Network Development Coordinator will work to support the growing national network of climate action groups and activists, working on environmental and social justice issues, particularly the One Future local climate action groups and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition. Applications for both positions can be made by sending your CV (2 pages max) and a one page cover letter to [email protected] by 23.59 on Wednesday 1st September 2021. Please include the role title in the subject of your email. Please do share these jobs with anyone who might be interested. With thanks for all you do, Oisín P.S. We know that this week’s IPCC report on climate change has left a lot of people itching to take action on the climate crisis.
