It's not over -- we can still win if we fight hard

Indivisibles,

If you didn’t see yet -- late Tuesday night, Republicans once again blocked key democracy reform provisions in the For the People Act from moving forward in the Senate, even smaller bills advancing anti-gerrymandering and money in politics provisions that are popular across the political spectrum.

Just like we predicted in our updated Indivisible Guide back in January, the GOP is refusing to even debate on a more responsive democracy, even when Democrats make concessions to try to get them on board. That doesn’t mean we can’t get it done -- it means we have to fix the way the Senate works so we can put the will of the people into law. That’s where Indivisibles come in.

We expect (and demand) that S. 1 will be the first thing the Senate takes up when they come back from recess. That means we need to spend the next few weeks preparing to fight it out, again, and make sure senators clear every last hurdle when they return to D.C. after Labor Day. We’re going to need to use all the tried-and-true Indivisible tactics and more to win this one: calls, events, press coverage, ads, letters to the editor, you name it.

So we’re pouring resources into all this work -- we’re keeping all our web and call tools up and running, placing ads in newspapers and digital channels, giving our volunteers tailored advice and resources through on-the-ground organizing, and more, all to get more and more activists on board and prove to senators that Indivisibles won’t be ignored. We need your help to do it.

Our tools, our resources, our expert staff: They all cost money. And grassroots support is our bread and butter, because we believe that the people deserve a real say in the work. But it means that when the fights get tough, we need to ask -- please donate $10 today to fund the tools and the organizing it will take to pass S. 1, implement real democracy reform, and give all our progressive priorities a chance.

Democrats have all the evidence they need that the GOP isn’t going to play along. Now it’s time for them to buckle down and clear the hurdles to get money out of politics, end gerrymandering and voter suppression, and build a more inclusive democracy. You heard from Ezra yesterday, but we want to repeat: This fight is not over. This is a setback, but we can still win.

The Indivisible movement was built on the idea that winning change is possible -- as long as the people refuse to back down and let electeds make excuses. They work for us, and it’s time to remind them of that. We still have a shot, so let’s take it.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
