Tell the President to grant clemency now

ACLU Supporter –

A looming incarceration crisis could happen any day if action isn't taken <[link removed]> swiftly:

Around 4,000 people transferred to home confinement during the pandemic are now under threat of being sent back to federal prison because of a Trump-era memo that misinterpreted the law.

Let me break down what all of that means – especially if you're not caught up on this news yet.

Under the CARES Act, the COVID-19 relief bill that passed last year, the Bureau of Prisons was given authority to permit individuals who were deemed to not be a risk to serve sentences at home.

Right before he left office, Trump's administration issued a memo declaring the Department of Justice would send all these people back after the national emergency ended.

But there's nothing in the law that states this, ACLU Supporter. In fact, no one released under CARES was even told they'd be sent back.

Now, here's the critical thing: President Biden can put a stop to this immediately by using his powers of clemency to commute the sentences of those on home confinement. And you can tell him to do so by sending him a message now.
