Dear John, We have just claimed a monumental victory with the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF), HR 3684, the INVEST in America Act. We must now turn our attention to the critical next step of the Build Back Better agenda: the $3.5 trillion budget resolution, the preliminary step toward a reconciliation bill that includes actions on climate change and the care economy and that requires only a simple majority to pass the Senate. The American Sustainable Business Council is asking you today to take two actions in this eblast. First, please sign on to a letter that will be sent to your senators urging passage of the budget resolution. Second, please join ASBC for a webinar on today at 3 PM ET as part of our advocacy for the reconciliation bill as a necessary companion to the BIF.
The webinar, featuring Zach Butterworth, private sector lead for the White House Office of Public Engagement, will focus on the national paid family and medical leave provisions in the reconciliation package. The webinar will also include ASBC members, including Dan Wolf, CEO of Cape Air, and Rebecca Hamilton, co-CEO of W.S. Badger, discussing the need and potential impact of a paid leave program on the business community.
The Budget Reconciliation Bill includes a mix of provisions from President Biden’s American Families Act as well as the House Ways and Means Committee’s Building Economies for Families Act. Both adhere to principles for a national paid leave law for which ASBC strongly advocates, including universal, comprehensive, and inclusive healthcare, implementation of progressive wage replacement and efficient public administration. Additional information about the reconciliation package can be found here. Please Join ASBC in advocating on behalf of paid leave and the Reconciliation Bill by signing on to a letter to your senators and by joining and promoting our upcoming webinar.
