if politicians are doing something popular, they rarely try to keep it a secret.
John,
Here’s something we know about politicians: if they’re doing something popular, they rarely try to keep it a secret.
So when Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) said “we do need to sit down behind closed doors so we’re not being scrutinized” over Social Security, we called our friends in Iowa to take the fight to her.
Yesterday, Social Security Works PAC President Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, held a rally with Iowa Voices to alert seniors to what Sen. Ernst wants to keep behind closed doors.
Ernst isn’t the only Republican Senator obfuscating where they stand on Social Security. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) said that cutting Social Security and Medicare is “usually best done during divided government,” while also acknowledging the GOP’s long-held desire to cut benefits, saying, “We’ve brought it up with President Trump, who has talked about it being a second-term project.”
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has clearly stated his plan to use the deficit created by the tax scam as a reason to cut our earned benefits. Control of the Senate will be up for grabs in the 2020 election. That’s why we need to make sure every voter knows what’s at stake.
