Sunrise DC Newsletter: August 11, 2021 Hi John,
Are y’all ready for an activism-filled August?! Check out upcoming events and projects below and join us!!
Boycott Nellie's - Fridays at 7pm There still isn't justice for Keisha Young, so we and our partners (including The Palm Collective, Harriet's Wildest Dreams, and Freedom Futures Collective) are gonna party and protest until our demands are met! Join us at 900 U St NW this Friday at 7pm!
Project Back to School! Sunrise DC is collecting graphing calculators to distribute to students before back to school starts! Graphing calculators are one of the items on middle and high school students' school supplies list, but they can be inaccessible for many due to their cost. So if you have a spare graphing calculator and want it to be put to good use, please fill out this form to donate it!
Water Drop Join Sunrisers for some outreach to local encampments this weekend through a water drop. We will be talking to unhoused neighbors and providing water bottles in NoMa - email [email protected] for more details.
Sunrise DC Book Club - Sundays at 3:30pm Do you want to expand your radical imagination alongside fellow DC organizers? Then come check out #fun-book-club, meeting on Sundays at 3:30pm and currently reading The Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler's literary classic.
Defend the Climate: Stop Line 3 - Monday, August 23 at noon It’s now or never. If we stand idly by, the Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline will be completed *this month*. By December, it is slated to pump 193 million tons of carbon into our atmosphere. Every year. For half a century. It violates the treaty rights of Indigenous nations and threatens the fresh water of 18 million people in 10 states who rely on the Mighty Mississippi. So we’re taking direct action in DC: sign up for event location and details.
If you are interested in getting more involved in the DC Hub and joining our Slack (platform where we organize), fill out our Welcome Form! From there you will be onboarded by some awesome Sunrisers and then the opportunities are endless! ️️ |
