John,
When the Senate failed to pass background check legislation after my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, it absolutely crushed me – but I refused to give up.
Almost seven years later, I still haven’t given up – and I won’t stand by and let Congress give up, either. The House passed a lifesaving background checks bill nearly eight months ago – but the Senate has refused to vote on it. Even after 31 people were murdered in Dayton and El Paso, and seven more were murdered in West Texas, they’ve done nothing.
This is despicable. People’s lives are at stake, and the Senate just went on vacation again without taking any action. Now that they’re finally back, we can’t afford to wait a single day to demand senators vote on this lifesaving bill.
That’s why we’re gathering 20,000 signatures between now and midnight tomorrow to urge the Senate to finally take action. We’re running out of time – can I count on you to sign our petition now?
I can never get my Daniel back. All I can do is work every single day to give him a legacy worthy of his too-short life and prevent other parents from the horror of losing a child to gun violence. Thank you for helping make that work possible. It means more than I can ever explain in words.
Mark Barden (Daniel’s father)
