This is a big deal: The Senate passed a massive, historic, bipartisan infrastructure plan, the first phase of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan.

This would be one of the most substantial investments in our roads, bridges, and electrical grid in years and it would be the largest investment ever in our public transit and clean drinking water. And it includes funding for my bills to strengthen our country’s water infrastructure and support communities divided by highways that obstruct mobility and economic opportunity.

But I want to be very clear about one thing: No infrastructure plan will be complete without meaningful climate action.

While the changes we’ve seen recently in our climate -- like the record-breaking heatwaves in the Pacific Northwest -- have been devastating, that’s only a fraction of how bad climate change could get if we don’t take urgent action. Studies show extreme heatwaves could become seven times more likely over the course of the next three decades.

But there’s good news: We can avoid the worst-case scenario if we take action ASAP to dramatically reduce carbon emissions.

That’s why I’m glad the bipartisan infrastructure plan includes billions of dollars worth of investments in electric vehicle charging stations -- something I’ve been fighting for in the Senate for a long time -- to help enable people across the country to drive the cars of the future that will help us reduce harmful pollution that damages our health and our planet.

This infrastructure plan is an important step in the right direction, but of course, there is still so much more to be done to address the scale and scope of the climate crisis. And that’s why I need grassroots supporters like you to be in for the long fight ahead. Will you add your name to mine and show your support for building climate-resilient infrastructure and taking meaningful climate action? [[link removed]]
